We were privileged to support Norfolk County Council’s recent campaign, that aims to open people’s eyes to fostering and adoption. We produced a series of case study films, focusing on the experience of eight foster carers and adopters, exploring how they’ve found the journey, the support they’ve had and why they do what they do.
By working closely with the council to fully understand the aims of the campaign, the background behind it and any sensitivities, and adding our knowledge and experience, we created a series of videos that aim to inspire viewers into considering whether they could foster or adopt. This campaign shows a range of foster carers and adopters thriving – such as Sara and John who adopted two siblings after seeing an advert for adoption, and Paul and Anthony who adopted Jayden in 2014 and then his baby brother. Each adopter explains the moment they first felt like a parent – from their kids falling asleep on them to dancing to the Sound of Music like they did as a child.
An important part of the campaign was overcoming misconceptions about fostering and adoption. These candid interviews explain that working full-time, being in a same sex couple, having children already or having no children are not barriers to fostering or adoption. In fact, anyone over 21 can adopt (whether single or in a couple) and anyone with spare time and experience of looking after children can foster.
This important campaign comes as Norfolk County Council has joined the Foster East initiative, which aims to recruit more people to become foster carers with their local council. Across the East of England more than 7,000 children are already in the care of their local authority and a further 150 more children go into care every month, highlighting the need for this vital work.
This emotive campaign will be used in online advertising and on social media, with the possibility of being used on TV.
